Web Design for Singers, Musicians, & Bands

March 14th, 2010 by Jacqui

If you are a musician, singer, or in a band and you want to make a splash online check out this article. We’ll tell you what your website needs to include, and how to keep a fresh, and creative look to your website, while displaying your talent and art.

MySpace Isn’t Enough

A lot of musicians &  bands think that their myspace page will cut it, and that they don’t need a professional website designed.  While there are benefits to your MySpace Profile such as; having a high number of friends, this could show record labels that you have a following.  That’s great, but there are other means of showing your popularity.

What a Musician’s Website Needs

As a musician your website needs to showcase all of your skills, tell about your personality (or your individual band members personalities.)  It is important to be able to sell your music either by standard shipping, or digital download.  But, it is essential that your fans can buy your products on your website.  You can sell t-shirts, posters, sheet music, etc.  Another great feature that you can add to your website is a concert, or gig calendar.  You can easily go in and add and cancel shows in seconds.  This feature even allows you to link to a Google map with the venue’s address, and phone number.  There is even a link to the place where the tickets are available, and a link for the venue’s website.  Incorporating a blog on your website is a great idea as a musician.  It gives your fans a way to connect with you, and of course having a news page is a fabulous way to keep your fans in the loop. Another way to keep them in the Loop is with a Mailing List signup. Which when you have thousands of emails in your lists and just finish an album you can let them all know.  Lastly it is very important these days to have an EPK (Electronic Press Kit), this is a PDF or file package that can be downloaded off you website. This EPK page can be linked in an email to all the clubs and venues you contact, so they can download a promotional package about you right then!

Social Networking & Musicians Websites

Twitter is all the rage right now.  It is important that you have a Twitter account, and also a customized Twitter page to go with your website.  This just looks killer! :)  Your website should also have easy access to connect your fans and visitors to your Facebook and your MySpace Profile.  So here again you can see that MySpace and Facebook are add ons to your online presence, and they shouldn’t be your sole online status.

Domain Name for Singers, Musicians, & Bands

At the very least… If you finish reading this and you are not convinced that you need a professional website, please purchase your domain.  These days domains are going fast!  If you don’t hurry up and get yours you might have to buy it from someone for thousands of dollars!  You want to get your name dot com, if you are a solo artist, such as; a singer.  If you are in a band, obviously you will want to buy the band name dot com.  You can park your domain, which means that you buy it, you own it, but you aren’t doing anything with it yet.  So at least you know you’ve got it.  So you’re ready when you have a website designed.

To Summarize….

Don’t feel overwhelmed.  A good solid web designer can handle all of this for you no problem. :)  If some of our suggestions cause your current web designer to scratch their head, then perhaps you should find a new web designer.  To summarize; here is what you need to implement on your website if you are a singer, musician, or a band.

  • Twitter Integration
  • MySpace Link
  • Facebook Intergration
  • Bio Page
  • Contact Page
  • Online Store
  • Gigs Calendar
  • Download Shop
  • Blog
